Lesson 4 of 4 · 5 min read
Your first conversation
"How do I actually start?"
This lesson is the bridge. We're going to open ChatGPT in a new tab and ask it *one* thing. That's the entire goal.
Step 1 — open ChatGPT
Go to chatgpt.com in a new tab. You'll see a single big text box in the middle of the screen.
Step 2 — paste this exact prompt
"Write a short, heartfelt thank-you note to a neighbor who watered my plants while I was away."
Hit enter. You'll see the answer appear word by word. That's normal — let it finish.
Step 3 — read it
Was it any good? Would you actually send it? Don't worry about whether it's perfect. The point right now is: *you sent a message to an AI and it answered you.*
Step 4 — push back
The conversation is the feature. Try one of these as a follow-up:
- "Make it shorter."
- "Make it warmer and a little funny."
- "Now write it as a text message instead."
You just learned the most important thing: you can keep talking. AI gets better the more you refine.
*(A future version of this lesson will walk you through this with a button. For now, the manual version is the real thing.)*
