The simplest path

Open your web browser and visit chatgpt.com. That's it — one text box, ready for you to type.

On your phone

Search your app store for "ChatGPT" by OpenAI. Make sure the publisher says *OpenAI* — there are many copycats with similar names and logos.

The main players

• ChatGPT (chatgpt.com) — the most well-known. Best place to start.
• Claude (claude.ai) — favored for writing and careful reasoning.
• Gemini (gemini.google.com) — Google's, integrated with Gmail and Docs.
• Copilot (copilot.microsoft.com) — Microsoft's, built into Windows and Office.

Free or paid?

Each one has a generous free tier. Don't pay for anything yet. Pick one — we recommend ChatGPT — and use it free until you feel a limit.
