Different tools for different jobs

They are more alike than different. But there are real differences worth knowing once you've used one for a while.

• ChatGPT (OpenAI) — the most well-known. Strong all-rounder. Excellent voice mode. Best image generation built in.
• Claude (Anthropic) — favored for writing, careful reasoning, and long documents. Many writers and developers prefer its tone.
• Gemini (Google) — deeply integrated with Gmail, Docs, and Search. Great if you live in Google's world.
• Copilot (Microsoft) — built into Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Best if you live in Microsoft's world.
• Perplexity — an AI-powered search engine. Best for research with cited sources.

A simple plan

Start with ChatGPT. Once it feels comfortable, spend a week with Claude. You'll quickly know which "voice" you prefer. Add Perplexity to your bookmarks for anything fact-heavy.
