What is an agent?
"What is an agent?"
A regular chatbot answers your question and stops. An agent can take *actions* on your behalf — it can browse the web, fill out forms, write and run code, send emails, or use other software tools to complete a multi-step task.
A simple example
- Chatbot: "Here's a list of restaurants near you with good reviews."
- Agent: "I found three restaurants, checked which have a table for four at 7pm Saturday, and booked the one with the best rating. Confirmation is in your email."
Agents are early and imperfect. They sometimes get stuck or make mistakes you'd notice immediately. But this is where the field is moving fastest — expect dramatic improvements over the next year.
