What AI actually is
"What is AI, really?"
Forget the science-fiction version for a moment. Today's AI is, at its core, a *very good guesser that has read a staggering amount of text*.
The plainest explanation
You type something. The AI looks at your words and asks itself, over and over: *"Given everything I've read, what's the most useful next word?"* Then it writes one. Then the next. Then the next. The result feels like thinking — and in some ways it is — but underneath it's pattern, prediction, and practice.
Why it feels like magic
Because it has read more than any person ever could: books, articles, manuals, conversations, code. So when you ask it a question, it draws on patterns from all of that to give you something that *sounds* like a knowledgeable friend.
What that means for you
You don't need to understand the machinery to use it well. You just need to remember: it's a guesser. A brilliant, well-read guesser — but a guesser. Treat its answers like a smart first draft, not gospel.
